INSEAD Knowledge – Disney’s Strategy in China
In Uncategorized on June 15, 2010 at 08:34INSEAD has begun to publish online briefs in greater quantities than in the past – in the last two days it appears that 5 or 6 articles have been released (in competitive response to HBS?). This article speaks to the challenges and successes experienced by Disney when moving into China.
Disney appears to have learned from some of their tentative starts in Europe (most famous anecdote, the prohibition of wine in the restaurants at Disneyland Paris), and has gone into partnership with a consortium of Chinese investors. They are also tailoring the attractions and the “characters” to some of the more popular Disney features in China, rather than simply relying on the US brands. Again, a good example of “think local” strategy for a global player.
